Now that I’m “back in school” teaching I think of years as September to June, and boy did this one fly by. It was one of those years when I had a growing list of goals to accomplish, but couldn’t seem to get it all done. And when it came to exercise and being healthy I fell into a rut for the entire school year. Sure there’d be windows of time when I’d make it to the gym and say I’m going to start exercising again. But then life got busy and I reverted to my lazy ways. I was always busy or tired and couldn’t seem to make the time for myself. Now that I have a break and time to unwind (if that’s possible with two high energy toddlers?!?), getting healthy is a top priority for me.
Actually, Annie and Ryan are the driving force behind my decision to make some health and lifestyle changes. Sure I’d like to lose the lingering baby weight, but mostly I want to stop feeling like I’m in a fog. I want more energy when we play. And I want to be healthy to enjoy life with them for as long as humanly possible. I know I can’t control everything about my health and certainly don’t want to give up all the foods I enjoy. But when my Dad’s brain tumor started causing trouble again I came across more and more research and testimonials linking food to our health and it’s something I can’t ignore now. Here are the three steps I’m taking towards better health this summer.
1. Incorporating Your Super food mixes into meals. Use code MYWEALTHROAD at checkout for 15% off your purchase.

Your Super caught my attention because of the co-founders story behind the mixes. At age 24 Michael was diagnosed with cancer. Kristel, along with the help of her aunt – an orthonutritionist, came up with seven super food mixes to help Michael’s body recover and heal. Michael writes in his testimony, “While taking them, I felt energized, happier and increasingly aware”. Kristel’s allergies and eczema began to clear up. Their friends and family reported similar stories of looking and feeling better.

I went all in and ordered the Ultimate Health Bundle which includes all seven super food mixes. My purchase also came with four free recipe e-books and access to an exclusive members group. The e-books alone are very helpful for learning EASY and creative ways to incorporate the mixes (I’m terrible in the kitchen btw). I also love reading the blog emails with added recipe ideas (uhm…Nutella Ice Cream) and how Kristel and Michael incorporate different mixes throughout the day. So far I’ve tried to replace one meal with the smoothie recipes. I’ve favored the Forever Beautiful and Chocolate Lovers mixes. They help when I have sugar cravings. Today I actually skipped ice cream from one of my favorite places and opted for a chocolate smoothie at home. The green smoothie with pineapple tastes better than ones I’ve tried before. When I drink the smoothies I feel less bloated and more energized throughout the day. I enjoy the way they taste and I’m excited to keep trying new recipes like the salad dressings and peanut dipping sauce. I didn’t sign up for the subscription yet and plan to repurchase as needed for now. If you’re skeptical and don’t want to splurge on the Ultimate Bundle right away, I suggest trying the Starter Pack or Kids Bundle.

2. FINALLY starting the Body Boss Method.

I bought the Body Boss Ultimate Fitness Guide, at least a year ago. And it sat in my closet, untouched for some time. Why I didn’t start sooner I can’t tell you, but I finished my first week of pre-training today. The High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workouts are 24 minutes, three times a week (plus warm up and cool down). Let me tell you, I have never felt so sore from only 24 minutes of working out in my life (and it’s Week 1 of the PRE-TRAINING). The program has you complete the HIIT workouts Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday you are encouraged to complete 20-30 minutes of cardio (bike, walk, swim, run) and the weekends are for rest! There’s no need for a gym membership or expensive equipment and you can follow @BodyBoss or #Boss Effect on Instagram to see videos of how to complete the exercises (free workout videos come with the online edition). I’ll keep you updated on my progress as the weeks go by. There’s four weeks of pre-training (possibly eight because I’m so out of shape) and twelve weeks for the program.
*Mom friends: The guide doesn’t recommend the program if you are pregnant or six months postpartum and recommends consulting a doctor if you had a baby within the last year.
3. DRINK WATER!
I never drink enough water. In fact, my husband’s response to what ails me is typically, “You don’t drink enough water”. I’ll give myself credit for cutting back on soda, but I still don’t drink anywhere close to the recommended amount of water each day (I seem to have replaced soda with coffee). I enjoy water with natural citrus fruit, so I need to be better about having some cut and handy in the fridge, or using a couple drops of Essential Lemon Oil. I came across nutritionist and brain tumor survivor, Allison Huish’s blog on essential oils three years ago (when my Dad’s tumor was growing again). Click here for her top 20 uses of lemon essential oil. Number 14 states lemon, “Increases Energy. A cup of warm lemon water in the morning is a great alternative to coffee”. I’ll give it a try along with a Swell reusable water bottle for while I’m on the go with the kids this summer. It keeps your drinks (water and wine) cold for up to 24 hours. Can’t decide what style to choose? Take the What’s your S’well? Quiz to help narrow down the choices. I love my Calacatta Gold quiz results, but also have eyes on the Watercolor Lilies design. What’s your favorite design?
